On June 1, 2015, Lucas De Man brought a journalist, a dramaturg and a camera team together and started a journey in search of the current state of Europe. In 30 days they travelled through 17 different cities in the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Turkey and Greece.

Historical and modern visionaries

In order to understand today’s Europe, Lucas looked back and forth, to past and future. He spoke to professors and historians about the generation of visionaries that laid the foundation of the Europe that we know: Erasmus, Thomas More, Luther, Copernicus, Machiavelli, Columbus and Mehmet II.

Lucas also talked to creators, creative professionals, who not only have a vision of today’s society, but actively try to shape it by the projects that they work on. Remarkably, a new generation is on the rise in Europe and they are ready to fight for change. Here you can see an overview of the people that Lucas spoke to: >> visionaries

During the trip, the travellers posted a daily report. Europe reporter Tomas Vanheste of De Correspondent shared his articles. Director Ruut van der Beele and camera men Pepijn Robben and Ton Vorselaars recorded both the documentary ‘In Search of Europe, meeting modern visionaries’ and the short movies in which Lucas and Tomas shared their findings. Lucas interviewed creators and professors and wrote the article Five battles of a creative generation.
