Nicolaas Copernicus

Nicolaas Copernicus (1473 – 1543) was born in Torun and later became a student of classical languages and astronomy at the university of Krakow. He had a strong interest for physics and discovered that the earth rotates around the sun and not the other way around. Later, this theory was proven by Galileo Galilei. Simultaneously, Copernicus was a canon at the Maria-Ascension cathedral in Bialystok.
